Turkmen fuel and energy complex pins hopes on Gas Chemistry

The hydrocarbon resources of Turkmenistan are estimated at more than 71 billion tons of oil equivalent, which is more than 20 billion tons of oil and more than 50 trillion cubic meters of natural gas. The reserves of blue fuel at the super-giant Galkynysh field are the second largest in the world, and are estimated at 27 trillion cubic meters, according to an article by Myratgeldi Meredov, deputy prime minister who oversees the fuel and energy complex.

There are three plants at the Galkynysh field, which annually produce 30 billion cubic meters of industrial gas. International contractors — Hyundai Engineering, Petrofac International, CNPC Chuanging Drilling Engineering Company Limited — were involved in the construction and commissioning of these installations, as stated in the article.

Speaking about the prospects for the development of the fuel and energy complex, Meredov mentioned plans to build new gas and chemical complexes in each region of the country. They will produce polyethylene and polypropylene, rubber and polystyrene, polyvinyl acetate, methanol and other high value-added goods.

The implementation of these projects will significantly increase jobs in the country, as well as expand the export potential of the Turkmen oil and gas sector.
